Myths related to the appearance of Acne
There are many misconceptions and rumors about what causes and does not cause the disease:
- Diet. Until recently it was believed that the worsening of acne plays an important food, particularly foods such as: chocolate, potato chips and sugar, among others. However they are increasingly the scientific findings that show that this is not true. But these foods are high in fat, which promotes the growth of sebaceous secretions, and may therefore worsen acne if it is already developed. Consequently, those who already suffer from acne are recommended certain dietary hygiene, which, though not considered as such a treatment for acne, helps to not worsen their evolution.
- The consensus among health professionals is that acne sufferers should observe and experiment with your diet and avoid eating those foods to notice that may worsen the severity of your acne.
- A recent study based on tracking 47,335 women found a positive association between consumption of skim milk and acne. The researchers speculate that the association may be caused by hormones (such as bovine IGF-I) present in cow's milk, but this has not been definitively demonstrated. Moreover, the seafood can contain relatively high levels of iodine, but probably not enough to cause an outbreak of acne. [Citation needed] People prone to acne may avoid eating foods high in iodine. It has also suggested a relationship between a diet high in refined sugars and acne.
- Poor personal hygiene. Acne is not caused by dirt, this misconception probably comes from the fact that acne is associated with infections of the skin. In fact, the blockages that cause acne occur deep within the narrow follicle channel, it is impossible that they can be removed by simple washing. These eruptions are formed by cells and sebum created by the human body. The bacteria involved in the process are the same in the skin. The continuous washing of the skin not only not reduced but sometimes can actually worsen existing acne, due to the possibility that the soap contains comedogenic substances (known as acne detergicans Entity). Anything above a gentle wash, two or up to three times a day, can worsen existing lesions and even cause new lesions damaging or drying the skin.
